Well, after all of the hubbaloo the last few weeks, I thought I would take advantage of the good weather and a light schedule to eat a few days and get out on the course. Today proved to be a great day for me indeed.
So, the equipment first:
Irons: slingshots
Wedges: Vokey
Putter: Futura
Utilities: TM Rescues
3w: 980F 15*
Driver: 983K 11.5
Ball: Mojo (except for one hole)
I started at the range testing my plethora of drivers out, and I could not hit the Ignite without a big slice. I think it's the shaft and the way I load it. It's just too big and I can't get it to square. If it had a graf blue or HTD shaft in it, I think I'd be better off. Or the NV. In any case, that may be an experiment I try. We'll see.
But at the range I was hitting the 11.5 983K with very consistent dispersion. Because of that, it went into the bag.
I head up to the tee box. Hit a nice drive down the right side with a touch of fade, so I knew I was going to be in the second cut. When I got to my ball, not only was I in the second cut, but I had a tree blocking a full swing. So I had to knock the ball back into the fairway the best I could. I'm not 230 from the green. What the hell, I tell myself, and I hit my 2i. I'm up on the green. I gasp. Par.
The Mojo was 1 club more for me all day. I had 3 pars on the front, and 4 on the back. No doubles at all. 1 three putt. 5 GIRS. Once again, it was the chipping that saved my ass. And I was putting better. I was using the Futura differently today and I'm going to try it again in my round tomorrow.
On 15, the hole that owns me, I took extra club and hit to the right even though the pin was tucked left. I landed in the rough. As I approached the ball I told myself what I expected out of a chip. I looked at my landing area and by god I hit it and got within 2 feet. Par. I was so excited by this I did the Tiger Fist Pump after the chip.
I got to 16 and decided there was no way I was slicing. BOOM. Par.
I got to 17 and decided that because the pin was up front on that slope, I was going to need a spin ball for the third shot. I pulled out a strata and bombed it off the tee. I was now about 240 from center of green. Getting greedy I hit my three wood, but didn't hit it great. It was still in the fairway however, 30 yards from the pin. I took out my 58, smacked a great pitch that landed past the hole on the slope, and spun back toward the hole. Missed the birdie by an inch and got my par.
I really wanted the par on 18, but it didn't happen. I got about 160 from the pin with my tee shot and just didn't hit a great iron shot. I had a chance with my chip but Aliced it a bit and walked away with a two putt.
All in all, what a great day. Weather was perfect. Everything was great. I wish my buddies had been there. I finally had a great day in golf. I needed it. The past few months have sucked, and the past few weeks, outside of golf, have been high stress. This was a good way to cap that off.
42 on the front
42 on the back
84 means my best score at the Plat.
Now it doesn't matter what I do tomorrow. Today was near perfect.
