Sore as hell, Ego bruised

Okay, first of all, why in the F*** is it so flipping hot in this state??? It's been hotter in Washington than in California for F's sake. Driving me CRAZY. I am never not sweating in my own house. My bedroom is 84 degrees at night.

Anyway, so I have this new Personal Trainer that is killing me. My arms are so sore it's not even funny. Today, against my better judgement, I attempted to play golf with these arms. The damage?

Wait for it.

116 pure. That's every shot, every missed putt, everything. 14 penalties. I got two 10's. Toward the end, i started to keep it a little more together, but overall, not a great day to be golfing. If my brother wasn't here, I would have bailed on it. He was doing pretty well on the front though, so we kept going.

I'm mad, but I'm not mad all at the same time. I could not have done any better today with these arms. I think I have to accept that during my breaking in period with this PT, I'm going to suffer a bit game wise.

Ugh. 14 penalties. Absolutely nasty.

Golf and "Having Fun"

Played 27 holes of golf on Saturday in brutal heat, and then 18 on Sunday morning. I was beat all weekend. The new PT is kicking my ass during the week, I'm not sleeping well due to the heat, and then the Saturday thing was just dumb -- not a good way to treat yourself.

Anyway, we finally got to play as a group again since Chris went on his giant one month walkabout. The round was "eh" just like Saturday's. Paul has pointed out that my bad rounds are now what I considered my "good rounds" six months ago, so I guess I should stop bitching.

Chris and I had a nice chat after lunch. Well, Chris preached to me, and I listened, about having fun while golfing. I thought about it a lot afterwards, and I think I have figured out why at the Plat I don't tend to "have fun" as much as one would hope: the course itself is not fun. It's a course that makes you WORK. It's not the "casual round of golf" course that Twin Rivers or even Coyote is. Plat is a course where if you hate losing balls (and I do), you can't have a "good time" if you're game is slightly off. I don't know why I hate losing golf balls, but I do. It annoys me. And usually, when I hit out, I hit OUT. I almost never find my lost balls. I find Paul's. But mine remain missing into the void. So I end up having to use crappy balls, and then my chipping suffers.

Anyway, that's what I came up with. The Plat is not a course designed for a "fun round of golf," at least not for me. Maybe I can get there where I don't care. I have a GREAT time when I don't lose balls. Even if I shoot 104, but have no penalties, I feel better. Weird, huh?

I'm also mad because my personal goal for this summer is not going to be met. And I didn't get to golf nearly as much as intended during June. That was a pisser.

I'm rambling now. More later.

John Kerry, You Will Lose

THIS is a fantastic article about John Kerry. And all the more reason he will not get my vote.
